Watch Jeremy Corbyn’s speech at Glastonbury
The Labour leader spoke on the Pyramid stage before Run The Jewels
Jeremy Corbyn spoke to a crowd of thousands at Glastonbury festival this weekend.
The Labour leader appeared in between Craig David and Run The Jewels on the Pyramid Stage and was introduced by festival founder Michael Eavis.
Between chants of "oh Jeremy Corbyn", he talked on issues such as sexism, racism, poverty and homophobia and the importance of every-day citizen politics: "Politics is actually about everyday life. It’s about all of us, what we dream, what we want, and what we want for everybody else."
He made sure to train his sights across the Atlantic, too: "There’s a message on that [video] wall for President Donald Trump. Do you know what it says? Build bridges not walls."
Circling back to the ethos of Glastonbury, Corbyn noted: "This festival was envisaged for music yes, but also for environment and for peace." And he also thanked Eavis, saying: “You brought the spirit of music, of love, of ideas, and of great messages” before handing him a signed copy of the Labour party manifesto.
The MP for Islington North reportedly drew a bigger crowd than Radiohead, who headlined the Pyramid Stage earlier in the weekend, and is said to have been Glasto's biggest draw since The Rolling Stones played in 2013. Not bad considering he had to cancel his scheduled appearance at the festival in 2016 due to Brexit.
After the Pyramid Corbyn then delivered a speech on the Left Field stage, before heading over to the Solstice bar to pull a few pints for some thirsty festivalgoers.
