Honest Jon’s started life as a record shop in West London in 1974. After it was acquired by Mark Ainley and Alan Scholefield, the duo decided in 2001 they were not content with just selling other imprints’ records and launched a label arm of the shop to sign and put out music: Honest Jon’s Records was born. From this point it has grown into a leading outlet in the UK scene and beyond, with releases coming from Kassem Mosse, Actress, DJ Rashad, Candi Station and diversely talented musical mind Damon Albarn, who had a helping hand in the label’s formation.
