IKEA shares first detailed look at its turntable and "music party" collection

Following the announcement that IKEA plans to launch a turntable and "music party" collection in collaboration with Swedish music hardware company Teenage Engineering, a more detailed look at the gear's design has now been revealed.

The new series of speakers, turntables and lights are called Frekvens and features a design that's in-line with IKEA's distinct minimalist approach. Plus, judging by the photos and the design layout, it looks like Frekvens may be a modular system.

Teenage Engineering’s Jesper Kouthoofd spoke to Ad Age about how the concept is focused on providing an easy to use full party system:

“Marcus [Engman, head of design at Ikea] got this idea that it’s kind of like a home roadie thing, like you could set up your own sound system. Then I started thinking about how, a lot of Swedes, we go to Ikea when we have a party—to get candles, napkins. Maybe we could do something that’s really affordable so people can buy a sound system, including a light show—a complete party.”

The Frekvens range consists of a turntable, speakers and lighting equipment which is expected to have a price range from $5 to $99. Look for the gear to drop around June 2019.
