UK organization Help Musicians, which has been working to provide mental health assistance and education for artists and music industry professionals, has officially launched its 24/7 services.
The Music Mind Matters system will provide a free helpline, advice, counseling and therapy all day, everyday.
The program will also offer relevant aid like advice on debt, welfare and legal issues as well as help accessing health and welfare-related grant funding.
Help Musicians recently partnered with the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM) and published a daunting report on mental health in the music industry, citing that 71.1 per cent of subjects believed they had experienced panic attacks or anxiety, 68.5 per cent said they had dealt with depression and 55 per cent thought there was a lack of provisions to help artists in these matters.
Countless artists have come forth in the past to discuss their stories dealing with mental health on Mixmag, including Moby, Sasha, and Louisahhh. Earlier this year, the documentary WHY WE DJ - SLAVES TO THE RHYTHM featuring Luciano, Seth Troxler, Carl Cox, Ben Pearce and more also gave an in-depth look at the psychological stress suffered by electronic artists.
Mixmag takes the topic of mental health very seriously. If you feel you are struggling with related issues, you can find more information on Help Musicians UK here, or contact its 24/7 hotline at 0808 802 8008 and by email at MMM@helpmusicians.org.uk
