Glastonbury Festival urges attendees not to bring disposable vapes to festival

Organisers have added vapes to Glastonbury's "what not to bring list" ahead of the festival next week

Glastonbury festivalgoers are being urged not to bring single-use vapes to Worthy Farm this year in compliance with the event’s environmental policies.

Disposable vapes were added to Glastonbury’s ‘what not to bring’ list, which also includes non-biodegradable body glitter, wipes, and excess packaging in an effort to reduce environmental harm to the site.

“Do not bring disposable vapes,” they told attendees, following Glastonbury's 'reduce, reuse, recycle' policy. “They pollute the environment and can be hazardous at waste centres.”

Every week, 1.3 million disposable vapes are thrown away in the UK – or two every second. Last month, industry experts warned of a ‘dramatic rise’ in fires at recycling plants over the past year.

Glastonbury has also asked attendees not to bring more than necessary to this year’s event, and to take home anything brought to the festival site including tents, gazebos, and excess packaging.

Biodegradable wipes were also banned this year. “Please avoid the use of disposable wipes,” they said. “Wipes – even biodegradable wipes, which quickly breakdown into micro-plastics – are problematic environmental pollutants.”

“Plant fibre-based biodegradable wipes release greenhouse gases when they decompose, so we would like people to really try to use alternatives. A washcloth and a bar of soap works wonders!”

Glastonbury Festival’s 51st edition takes place next week from June 21 - 25. Headliners this year include Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John.
