Genius Of Time - 9/10

Larry Levan

It’s rare that a compilation can be judged as pretty much faultless, but in the case of ‘Genius of Time’, these special re-edits really have stood the test of time. The first disc opens with ‘Life Is Something Special’ by NYC Peech Boys and includes ‘Padlock’ and ‘Seventh Heaven’, two disco-soul anthems from Gwen Guthrie, as well as lesser-known tracks by Man Friday and Merc & Monk.

Gwen’s back on the second disc with ‘Peanut Butter’, while an epic instrumental version of Smokey Robinson’s ‘And I Don’t Love You’ and another disco stomper from the Peech Boys, ‘Don’t Make Me Wait’, brings this comp to a close.
