Fugees’ Pras Michel: “We don’t even ask Lauryn Hill if she’s gonna be on time anymore”
Pras speaks out on the cancellation of Fugees’ US tour, and his new Lauryn Hill diss track
Pras Michel has spoken out about his love-hate relationship with fellow Fugees member Lauryn Hill.
Last week, Pras dropped what fans believed to be a diss track taking shots at Lauryn Hill after she pulled the plug on the US leg of their reunion tour, which was due to go ahead this year.
Speaking to Vulture, Pras explained: “Everyone’s frustration has been building up. My frustration was for the fans. They are paying their hard-earned money to see you.”
Pras spoke on the trio’s strained relationship with fans after the cancellation of their recent tour, pointing out Lauryn Hill’s notoriously unpunctual arrivals and previous tour cancellations.

“There’s obviously reservation,” he said. “We don’t even ask her if she’s gonna be on time anymore; we say, “How late is she going to be?” It gets to a point that you say, is it even really all worth it?”
The Fugees rapper also said he was “both surprised and not surprised” after Lauryn Hill announced the cancellation of their tour, which was also due to coincide with the 25th anniversary celebrations of ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’.
“Last year, there were supposed to be 20 shows, and we did ten. They were all sold out, but ten extra shows needed to be done that she cancelled. Now you put shows on sale this year, and people are like, ‘how do we know this is not gonna be cancelled?’,” he said.

Speaking about his recent Lauryn Hill-aimed beef on new track ‘Bar Mitzfa’, Pras told Vulture that it wasn’t in fact a diss track, but him “speaking the truth”.
“Artistically speaking, sometimes we say things because that’s how we express ourselves,” he said. “When I was writing the record, those lines just came out. That was actually the last bars that came: ‘Don’t blame me, blame her, she made the mess’. It sounded hot!”
Pras Michel assured of his love for Lauryn Hill, adding that he’d “never seen this kind of fan reaction” toward her until the tour was cancelled. He called it “tough love”, saying: “This is not an indictment of her and her character.”
