Flume shouts out Keep Sydney Open in ARIAs acceptance speech
Australia's electronic golden child has taken home six national awards
Flume cleaned up at the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) awards last night and used the platform to protest Sydney's lockouts.
The 'Skin' producer won six gongs including 'Best Male Artist' and 'Album of the Year' at his home country's leading music awards, accepting 'Best Dance Release' for his 2016 album with a shout out to the Keep Sydney Open campaign:
"I want to say a big thank you to the venues," he announced.
"Especially the small venues and the small parties that are doing what they’re doing, because that’s where music evolves, that’s where all the exciting stuff happens, and that’s what’s getting shut down right now.
“To our policy makers and our politicians: please Keep Sydney Open to let the next generation have the same opportunities I had.”
He was also rocking a Keep Sydney Open pin on the red carpet at the event, held at The Star casino, which is controversially exempt from the 1.30am lockout and 3am last drinks laws that have suffocated the city's music scene over the past two and a half years.
