​Floating Points, Bonobo, and Kamasi Washington to score new Adult Swim TV series

Floating Points, Bonobo, and Kamasi Washington have been enlisted to soundtrack a new TV show heading onto Adult Swim.

The new animated show, titled Lazaurs, comes from Shinichirō Watanabe, the director behind the acclaimed anime series Cowboy Bebop. and will be produced by acclaimed anime studio MAPPA.

Floating Points, Bonobo, and US saxophonist Kamasi Washington are set to score the series together as a trio — providing a jazz-meets-electronic sound to the show's score.

Speaking on the new show, Watanabe explained: “As I embark on this creative journey, I can’t help but feel that this project will serve as a culmination of my career so far. I hope you enjoy it.”

Lazarus has been given the green light to go into production and follows the premise of a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist who creates a cure-all drug with a side effect of death just three years after its use.

The series, which is set in the year 2052, then follows a special task force called ‘Lazarus’ who attempt to develop a second life-saving vaccine. Action sequences throughout the series are due to be choreographed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski.

Head of anime and action series at Adult Swim, Jason DeMarco, said in a statement: “Shinichirō Watanabe is simply one of the greatest living artists, and it’s a dream come true to be able to collaborate with him on a new original series.

“Like all of his work, Lazarus is packed with big ideas, incredible characters and a ton of heart. We can’t wait for anime fans to see this world,” he added.

The series has been given the go-ahead for production, but no release date has been set as it stands.
