Ennio Morricone has been commemorated with a new €5 coin
The legendary Italian composer passed away last summer
A new coin commemorating the Oscar-winning Ennio Morricone has been created.
Italy’s ministry of economy and finance is behind the coin, which has both a portrait of Morricone and his hands conducting engraved.

The €5 coin was designed by Maria Angela Cassol. It's available in both silver and bimetallic versions, with an 8,000 and 10,000 circulation respectively.
The Italian composer was known as the "Maestro" and scored more than 500 films across seven decades, including the trilogy of Clint Eastwood-starring and Sergio Leone-directed 'spaghetti' westerns in the 1960s: A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The composer won an Oscar in 2016 for his score of Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’. He was previously nominated for five Oscars, and also was a recipient of an Honorary Academy Award for his work in scoring films.
Morricone died in hospital in June 2020 a few days after breaking his femur in a fall.
