DJ Spoony, Laura Mvula and Akala confirmed for Afropunk Brixton takeover

It all kicks off on September 1

Afropunk is gearing up to host an epic Brixton takeover this September and has this week revealed the next wave of artists locked in for the occasion.

From garage icon DJ Spoony through to Laura Mvula (pictured), Akala, Bakar and more, the new names will join the likes of August Greene AKA Robert Glasper, Common and Karriem Riggins at the week-long celebration in South London.

Taking over the Brixton from September 1 through to 8 for a week of live music, art, workshops and a club night at Electric Brixton, Afropunk London is also set host a night of explosive poetry, spoken word and music featuring some of the brightest talents on the scene at The Ritzy as part of the cultural programming.

With a huge Battle of the Bands final as well as as a slew of talks on topics such as redefining masculinity, radical self-care and gender, the forthcoming takeover is set to be Afropunk’s most forward-thinking outing in the capital yet.
