DJ Deeon hospitalised in ICU following "amputation and pneumonia"

The legendary Chicago house producer is asking for "prayers" after revealing ill health

DJ Deeon has revealed that he is in ICU, alongside details of his ill health on a new Facebook post.

The legendary Chicago house producer shared a picture of himself with breathing apparatus alongside the caption: "In hospital, amputation, Pneumonia, NOW ICU"

"With heart infection. Wishing you well AND ASKING FOR PRAYERS PLEASE."

In response to a footwork producer Traxman, who had shared worry for DJ Deeon in the comments below the post, Deeon responded: " I'm down bro can't type on phone then out Dizzy. Tell.all.the bros lo pray please. This different."

Having cut his teeth as a DJ on the South Side of Chicago, DJ Deeon was instrumental in the transformation of house into its x-rated cousin ghetto house — alongside contemporaries Parris Mitchell, DJ Funk, Jammin' Gerald, Traxman and DJ Slugo. The producer was famously named as one of Daft Punk's inspirations in their track 'Teachers' from 1997 album 'Homework'.

Through label Dance Mania he's released a series of dancefloor classics including 'Bomb 96', 'Freak Like Me', 'Wicked', 'Back 2 Skool' and 'House-o-matic'.

This isn't the first time the pioneering producer has shared struggles with his health in the past few years — In 2020 he was forced to crowdfund for loss of income due to suffering a series of strokes.

“I'm not one to ask for help - it doesn’t sit comfortably with me - and I believe you should never get something for nothing so here I am offering to you what I can. Unreleased remixes, Back Catalogue Material, Exclusive Merch, Video messages, Remixes you name it.” He wrote on the Crowdfunder page the time.

We wish DJ Deeon a speedy recovery.
