DJ Bus Replacement Service announces “indefinite” break from playing out

The British DJ revealed her last string of shows before taking an extended break

DJ Bus Replacement Service has announced that she will be taking an “indefinite” break from gigging and DJing as of 2024.

The mask-donning DJ, altar ego of Doris Woo, told fans last week that her forthcoming string of shows may be the “final opportunity” to see her behind the decks.

“I’m taking an indefinite break from gigs after this year, so these shows may be your final opportunity to see your favourite rubbery-faced DJ out and about,” she announced. “This month will also conclude my chaotic mission to cram in a DJ gig & pickleball tournament on the same day.”

The potential final shows from DJBRS started with a gig at RADION in Amsterdam for DJ Bone’s Homeless Homies fundraiser on October 21, wtih forthcoming dates including a Selextorhood takeover at Deya Taproom in Cheltenham this coming Saturday, show at Positive Education Festival in France on November 3, aappearance at The Glove That Fits in London on November 23 alongside Etienne Lautrette, and a TBA event in Basel listed for Dec 2.

DJ Bus Replacement Service has also listed a series of pickleball events among the tour dates, including the English Nationals and Mediterranean Open, which she appears to be competing in rather than DJing at — unless the soundtrack to pickeball tournaments is more experimental than we realised.

DJ Bus Replacement Service’s three-year Rinse FM residency ‘Marital Aid’ alongside her partner, Surgeon, has also now ended, explaining: “We started Marital Aid during the pandemic for us to something musical together during lockdown while connecting with music, people, and #felineshoutouts around the world, so mission accomplished.”

The Midlands-based DJ spoke to Mixmag in 2021 about struggling with a “fairly serious illness”, and why she wears a mask in the likeness of Kim Jong-Un.

“Fundamentally the mask is there to reset people’s perceptions - I want the audience to have no idea what to expect when I appear in the booth,” she explained. “It’s nice though because wearing it hides a multitude of sins, like you can pull faces, say ‘fuck, fuck, fuck’ if you’ve stacked a mix, basically react any way you want.”
