Discogs introduces new annual Independent Record Store Month
The month-long series celebrates some of the best grassroots and independent stores
Next month, audio and vinyl database Discogs introduces the first-ever annual Independent Record Store Month, celebrating the best stores around the world.
Kicking off in June, the new annual event will take place in a series of online events connecting music fans to independent stores while providing a global directory.
“Independent record stores are the backbone of vinyl culture. As the original source for music sales, recommendations, and community, stores like yours deserve a celebration,” reads the website.

June 2022 marks the first annual event. Discogs are now asking independent record store owners to come forward and register with them, offering exposure to music fans, exclusive insights, and the opportunity to earn a storefront badge on Discogs.
“Despite surging vinyl sales and continued love for physical music, record stores seek ways to continue thriving in the face of inflation, a global pandemic, and supply chain disruptions,” Discogs said.
“These new initiatives will speak to music fans and inspire them to spend their money with record stores during Independent Record Store Month and beyond.”

Store owners will also be able to attend virtual conferences and access business information, and the chance to be featured in Discogs’ ‘unique directory’ of independent store owners around the world.
“Get your story and your inventory in front of a global audience of collectors and music lovers who are as passionate about finding new tunes as you are,” reads the website.
