Diplo €300,000 fine confirmed following 2024 illegal rave overlooking Ibiza's Es Vedrà

The event at the "protected" Cala d’Hort viewpoint last year was reportedly attended by "hundreds", despite the DJ having no permit

Diplo has been hit with a €300,000 fine after hosting an illegal rave at a protected site in Ibiza last year, Dario de Ibiza reports.

In June 2024, the US DJ threw a party at the island’s iconic Cala d’Hort viewpoint overlooking the es Vedrà island, a “protected area by the European Union”.

An investigation was launched by local police and the Sant Josep City Council into the unlicensed event – which was reportedly attended by “hundreds” without a permit – shortly after it went ahead.

The city council has now confirmed that the case has been resolved, per Dario de Ibiza, with Diplo being fined a large sum by the Department of Activities.

The council said it “strongly condemned” the illegal event, which was hosted in a “Natural Area of Special Interest, among other figures of environmental protection”.

“[It is] a vulnerable area in which this type of illegal activities promote the risk of fires, noise problems, waste, etc and, of course, endanger the integrity of the people attending,” they said after the investigation was launched last year.

According to Olive Press, Diplo made multiple posts on social media urging fans to head to the protected location for a surprise party on June 24, 2024. Videos showed people gathered on the site dancing while music played in the background.

Diplo has yet to comment on the matter. Dario de Ibiza said the fine against him is one of the island’s largest penalties for an illegal event to date.
