DGTL Festival goes meat-free for 2016
Action is being taken to make the production more sustainable
Amsterdam’s DGTL Festival has revealed that its Easter weekend event will be completely meat-free, with no meat onsale for attendees or supplied to artists.
The measure is being taken as part of the ‘Revolution’ concept DGTL founded in a bid to make its production more sustainable in light of concerns about the massive amounts of waste generated by music festivals.
Figures indicating that the meat industry contributes a greater percentage of total carbon emissions than the world’s entire car and transport industry have been cited in support of the decision.
Plenty of delicious meat-free alternatives will be on offer to satisfy punters, with DGTL making it clear that it is not “pushing vegetarianism on its visitors,” but hopes to “inform people about the drastic effects that our daily meat consumption has on our environment.”
Further environmentally-friendly steps in development include the use of re-usable plastic cups, recycling of urine as phosphate, collection of plastic bottle caps to produce WasteBoards, and reduction of diesel usage through a battery powered stage and connection to the main grid.
