Thomas Bangalter releases first track from upcoming solo album
‘L’Accouchement’ is the 10th track from ‘Mythologies’ — an orchestral work that was originally commissioned for a ballet
Thomas Bangalter, formerly one half of Daft Punk, has released the first track from his upcoming solo album ‘Mythologies’.
‘L’Accouchement’ will be the 10th track from the album. The whole album is performed by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and conducted by Romain Dumas.
The 90-minute orchestral score was originally commissioned in 2019, when French choreographer and dancer Angelin Preljocaj asked Bangalter to write music for a collaborative ballet between Preljocaj’s company and the Opéra National de Bordeaux, which premiered to the public last summer.

Using a full symphony orchestra, ‘L’Accouchement’ is a soaring, strings-forward track that runs for five-minute and 43 seconds.
‘Mythologies’ will be fully released worldwide on April 7 via Erato/Warner Classics, and will be available on CD, vinyl and digitally.
It will be the first solo work from Bangalter since he and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo announced that electronic music pioneers Daft Punk were splitting up after 28 years.
They announced the news via an eight minute video clip called ‘Epilogue’. It features a scene from their 2008 film Electroma, which shows the pair in their iconic robot garbs, before cutting to a graphic that reads: “1993-2001”.

We might expect to hear more from Bangalter on the electronic side of the musical spectrum soon, after video footage circulated in June, which seemed to show that he was in the studio working with Lil Nas X.
In November, Thomas Bangalter’s father and disco artist, Daniel Vangarde announced that he would be releasing a new album ‘Th Vaults Of Zagora Records Mastermind (1971-1984). Read Mixmag’s interview with him here.
