DJs and labels around the world raise money for COVID-relief in India
Fundraisers are starting in London, Hong Kong and Mumbai
Music industry affiliates have come together from around the globe to raise money for non-profit organisations providing COVID-relief in India, where infection rates are at an ‘all-time high’.
Labels, DJs and producers from Hong Kong, London, LA and even further afield have started fundraisers as India begins to hit some of its highest death rates yet - almost 4,000 deaths were recorded on May 6.
India’s hospitals are reporting a dire shortage of medical equipment and oxygen which is required as infection rates soar. The death toll currently stands at 234,000.
London DJ anu has teamed up with South-Asian collective Daytimers to play a fundraiser event at the end of May, with Daytimers member Mera Bhai also donating to NGO GiveIndia from the sales of his records and merchandise.

The London-based DJ said on Twitter: “Over £300 for donation in the first 48 hrs and still going. Big up yourselves and your generous spirits.”
Across the pond, Los Angeles label Discostan has paired up with designer Akshay Vig to create artwork with all proceeds going toward NGO’s Hemkunt Foundation and Ketto India.
In India, Goa-based techno label AsymetriK has released a compilation - ‘SOS [Charity Compilation]’ - including 14 tracks from local artists Bhish, Kohra, FILM, and label founder Arjun Vagale.

Vagale stated: “Our healthcare infrastructure is crippled - the system is broken! It’s now up to each of us to do our bit and help one another. As artists sitting at home, perhaps the best help we can offer is via our music.”
Fundraisers are also taking place via electronic music industries in Hong Kong, Mumbai and New Delhi, with all proceeds going toward the cause.
