Closer Kyiv launching new Sunday party to raise funds after fire destroys upper deck
The club hopes to have repairs completed by Strichka Festival in Mid-May
Kyiv club Closer has launched a new Sunday party after a fire destroyed part of the club last week.
The fire, which broke out on the evening of Monday March 20, completely burnt the upper deck above the dancefloor, with the fire starting in the cabin area of the ship in the club’s garden.
All of the proceeds will go to restoring the club, with Closer saying that it hopes to be fully repaired by the time Strichka Festival begins – one of the most important dates in the club’s calendar – which is currently scheduled for Mid-May.

The first edition of the Sunday party came on Sunday (March 26), and featured resident Igor Glushko alongside Bambu and Serge Jazzmate.
Announcing the party on Instagram, a post by Closer read [translated by Mixmag]: “Friends, we have a few messages to you and as usual, there are both good and bad. Let’s start with the first one – a good one.
“We’ve had a desire to launch a series of Sunday parties for a while. And looking at the early and warm spring, maybe already,” it continued.

“And here we come to the second news – it’s bad. Monday night a fire broke out in the cabin of our ship. Unfortunately the ship burned down from the inside and all the wooden deck on top where you used to rest. Just the iron frame and stairs to go – covering the entrance for now.
“We will be restoring everything gradually with the funds from the Sunday parties mentioned above. All ticket money will go towards restoring the ship, so if you want to support, you don’t need to donate – those currently have somewhere to go to; just come to us on Sunday for a good time.”
