California considers pushing last call for venues to 4AM

For party goers in California, the annoyance of hitting 2AM while trying to get lost in the midst of a dance floor at a nightclub is all too familiar.

Thanks to a strict cut-off time upheld throughout the entire state, all nightclubs and bars shut down or dry out the venue at 2AM, leaving clubbers in major California hotspots high and dry relatively early in the evening.

The Let Our Communities Adjust Late Night Act, which was proposed on February 14, aims to give the decision of when last call should be to each municipality, allowing nightlife hubs like San Francisco or Los Angeles to push back to as late as 4AM.

"California currently has a one-size-fits-all 2 am end to alcohol service, regardless of circumstances," State Senator Scott Wiener explained on a Facebook post. "Nightlife matters a lot, culturally and economically, and it's time to allow local communities more flexibility."
