Bristol’s Motion launches new venue in the heart of the city, Document

Dubbed a ‘cultural destination’, the venue will host events, co-working spaces, and artist studios

The team behind Bristol venues Motion and The Marble Factory have launched a brand new events space in the centre of the city, named Document.

Dubbed a ‘cultural destination’, the 3,000-capacity events space also offers a range of functions from a full gym, and artist studios, as well as meeting rooms and co-working spaces.

“This multifaceted space in central Bristol offers the city’s creative community a hub for underground art, music and experimental sound,” Motion announced on Instagram.

The venue, set inside a former ‘90s document storage warehouse, boasts a large industrial space for events, trumping the current size of Motion. On top of its 3,000-capacity events space, the venue will also host “affordable” 1000 sq metre studios for public use.

“Our converted warehouse has five different zones that are all uniquely different. Artists’ studios, workspaces and hot desks sit carefully alongside the exhibition space and expansive music venue,” added Motion.

“We’re redefining co-working, offering artists, freelancers and small businesses the opportunity to congregate and collaborate across the footprint of our building.”

Speaking on the new venue, Document owner Martin Page said: “We took hold of the former AVIVA document storage warehouse in January 2019. We saw the opportunity to breathe life into a building that had laid empty for a decade in a key central Bristol location."

Document currently uses five different spaces across its new venue on Pennywell Street, St Judes, including “a contemporary stripped back bespoke office space” and a 500 sq metre co-working and gym space on the first floor.

The venue was first teased to the public in December, announcing its full launch in January. Document is now open, with its office spaces and communal areas available to hire.

To celebrate the launch of the venue, Motion has launched a competition by giving away four VIP passes and a £100 bar tab to someone following Document on Instagram. Find out more about Document here.
