Boomtown Fair will be testing drugs on-site this year
Drug counsellors will be available as well
Boomtown Fair is the latest festival to utilise drug testing on-site.
The 60,000-capacity festival has linked up with substance testing organisation The Loop and will also have trained drug counsellors available to attendees at each campsite hub.
Prior to the festival, Boomtown has dedicated a page on its website highlighting UK drug trends including the risk of mixing different substances and the heightened potency of MDMA and ecstasy.
Organisers said: “After the truly heartbreaking experience of too many young people dying across the country at events, night clubs and town centres, through drug related incidents, we want to have an open and honest discussion to make sure we are doing everything in our power to educate, protect and prevent similar incidents occurring at the festival, and beyond, in the future."
Last year Secret Garden Party became the first UK festival to test drugs using The Loop’s services, resulting in a larger number of UK festival’s to allow drug testing this summer. The Loop’s drug testing service is free and anonymous.
Boomtown Fair takes place from August 10 to 13 this year and features a line-up of M.I.A, Cypress Hill, AJ Tracey, Alix Perez, Ben UFO, Boys Noize, Éclair Fifi, Flava D, Horse Meat Disco and many more.
