Bicep, Four Tet, Actress nominated for best album artwork in 2017
Plus a traveling exhibition of the best covers from the past 12 years
The Best Art Vinyl Awards has announced nominees for the best album cover art of 2017, featuring the likes of Bicep (pictured), Four Tet, Actress, Gorillaz and more.
Consisting of 50 covers, the finalists were selected by a panel of music industry design experts and previous Best Art Vinyl Award winners. Now a public vote, which opens on November 16, will decide the winner.
To coincide with this years awards, a travelling exhibition of the best designs from 12 years of the competition has been compiled by Art Vinyl’s founder Andrew Heeps. The exhibition includes 100 album designs that will visit galleries in the UK and Europe beginning on January 9 at The Hari Hotel in London, when this years winner is announced.
Heeps shared his thoughts on vinyl, the artwork and this year’s nominees: “In 2017 I’ve often wondered, what is the motivation for people when buying new vinyl, the art or the music or probably both. It is therefore the sleeve design that becomes the visual expression and identity for the music contained within. For something of that importance to the consumer, our annual Best Art Vinyl Award is a real celebration of these 50 nominated artworks and the designers behind the finished article”
