Beatport gets producers mentored by record labels with Beats In School

A contest for aspiring producers to take the next step in their career

Industry leading online electronic music retailer Beatport has launched a contest that grants producers the chance to be mentored by top record labels like Anjunabeats, Hospital Records, Dirtybird and Circus Recordings.

In collaboration with Point Blank Music School, the Association For Electronic Music, Mixcloud and Future Music, the contest takes place every two months with each contest session focusing on a single label.

The prize awarded to each winner includes a one year mentorship from the label, the opportunity to open a label showcase and get an official release, gear from Akai, Allen & Heath, Korg, Novation, Native Instruments, Serato, Teenage Engineering, Pioneer and Roland, coordinated press and media exposure on Beatport, Future Music Magazine, Computer Music Magazine, access to online courses from Point Blank and much more.

In order to enter, a producer needs to create a track that fits the label’s sound. Then they will need to input the track into a DJ mix uploaded to Mixcloud and promote the mix to get a better chance at being selected. The label will judge entries submitted during the entry period and select up to 20 participants to advance further in the contest. The selection of finalists will not be publicized.

With the first contest focusing on Circus Recordings, label boss Yousef provides insight into what he’s looking for: "Be yourself, believe in your music and try not to play it safe. Music can be big and functional for dancefloors, but still creative. Whatever is hot and current now, use as a list of music to avoid - if things are already popular, you’re too late. Forward only."
