ATO has dropped a brand new track, ‘no caroline’

The second part of the track takes a drum ’n’ bass infused route

Leeds rapper ATO has just released a drum ’n’ bass track, ‘no caroline’.

The single dropped on Thursday alongside a new music video via MCMXCV, which sees the two-part track represented by a mash-up visual.

Taking influence from his past, ATO revealed, “‘no caroline’ began as a response to failed relationships, trivialising my own experiences of emotional detachment.

“The production team introduced a second section that dragged me into different parts of my past. I wrote and recorded the entire second verse to what is now the outro before EDEN flipped the most of the section into a drum ‘n’ bass free-for-all.” he said.

The rapper also said that the first part of the track, which takes influence from hyper-pop while combined with his usual sound, was written in his sleep. After dreaming up the lyrics, ATO recorded the song immediately the next morning.

‘no caroline’ is the second single release from his forthcoming EP, following ‘Muscle Twitch’ which dropped earlier this year. The EP is set to be produced entirely by EDEN.

The music video, which was also released on Thursday, sees the rapper reciting the lyrics in the first half before switching up to a visual which conveys "the struggle with rising to the surface after being engulfed by water.”

Directors Dominik Galleya and Clemens Niel said that the video “works as a juxtaposition of two parts dealing with societal pressure on marginalised groups as well as disorientating images of masculinity that may be forced upon them.”
