Amoeba Music in Los Angeles under threat of being demolished by real estate group
This could be the end for the world renowned record shop
One of the most popular record stores in the United States, Amoeba Music, is in danger of being demolished by a real estate group who have different plans for the site.
According to Laist, the plot of land on Sunset Blvd. was purchased by GPI Companies for $34 million back in October of 2015. Now the company is apparently looking to bulldoze the existing structure in order to make room for a new skyscraper with a rooftop pool.
Although GPI has yet to officially file plans with the city, an architectural illustration firm called Shimahara has developed a rendering of the proposed building that was confirmed to have been made for the same address as Amoeba Music.
Amoeba Music is aware of the situation and issued a statement via Instagram assuring the public that they plan to remain in operation for “several years”.
At this point it is still unclear when GPI will make a push to build the new skyscraper, but the plan seems to have been set in motion.
