A protest to save London’s nightlife is being organised
#SAVEOURCULTURE
London’s nightlife was struck with a concerning blow on Tuesday night after a licensing sub-committee voted to revoke fabric’s license following two drug-related deaths at the venue.
The closure of one of the UK’s finest dance institutions sets a worrying precedent for the future of nightlife in the country, with many DJs voicing their enduring support for the club and its impact on Twitter.
But fabric and the UK nightlife community will not go down without a fight. The Farringdon nightspot is set to appeal the decision, supported by a Fund For Fabric that the NTIA is setting up to aid with legal costs.
Now a public protest is being planned to take place in London in a further show of support for UK nightlife. A Facebook event has been created, with thousands of people already signing up to attend.
The event description contains a rousing call to arms for people to actively protest against the suffocation of UK nightlife.
It reads: “The government needs to step up and defend the millions of peoples' right to our culture. Our culture is under threat, UK nightlife is under threat. Strict licensing laws, unchecked housing development in historically late night areas and a lack of awareness about the benefits of nightlife culture have led to a 50% decrease in venues across the country.
"Enough is enough. We can only change things if we unite for this common goal. BRING ON THE FIGHT!”
A time and place for the protest is still to be announced, with an organiser posting that "dates and location will be confirmed soon."
Confirm your plans to attend on the Facebook event now to stay in the loop.
