Chicago's Frankie Knuckles tribute is to be removed
A mural created in honour of the Chicago House pioneer is to be covered following water damage
The tribute piece, which went up three months after the house legend's death back in March 2014, is to be completely covered following a string of building repairs.
Located in Chicago's Logan Square, the mural has lasted in its entirety for 415 days and drawn the attention of visitors world wide, travelling from Europe and beyond just to grab a snap standing next to it.
Eric Merlos, owner of the shop that occupies the building where the wall is located, says the repairs have become unavoidable following severe water damage. Inch-thick brown cement is being applied to the outer layers in an attempt to seal the building and prevent further issues.
Even though the wall is yet to be fully covered, the local street artists behind the Knuckles tribute have already begun a 'GoFundMe' campaign in a bid to recreate it elsewhere in the city.
