15 years in the making, DJ documentary ‘Girl’ receives its release date

The movie will be available for streaming on June 1

15 years in the making, the feature-length documentary Girl sets out to tell the story of women DJs at the top of their game in the early 2000s and the various challenges they face in a male dominated industry. Directed by Kandeyce Jorden, the documentarian immerses herself in the world of EDM to capture intimate interviews and conversations with artists such as DJ Rap, DJ Irene, Colette, DJ Lady D and Sandra Collins.

During the making of the film, Jorden becomes particularly fixed on DJ Sandra Collins - traveling with her to Burning Man, Mexico and Russia for various DJ gigs. The documentary eventually transforms into a story about Jorden and Sandra Collins’ enigmatic relationship and how their “journey down nightlife’s rabbit hole” begins to take a toll.

The crowdfunded soundtrack to the movie includes tracks from The Chemical Brothers, Satoshie Tomie, Colette, The Crystal Method and others.

The movie will be available for streaming via Amazon, iTunes, Google Play on June 1.
