The artist Chemical X has donated an artwork created from 4000 replica ecstasy pills to The Loop, the not-for-profit drug safety organisation. The Loop is offering the piece as first prize in a competition that will raise vital funds for its #timetotest campaign.

Entitled Rush and valued at £50,000, the piece measures at 1.2 metres and each pill is embossed with the yin yang symbol, a popular pressing back in the Summer Of Love.

After launching in UK city centres in May 2018, The Loop is crowdfunding to set up pop-up labs across the UK to provide a free and anonymous drug safety testing service for clubbers, festival goers and anyone with substances of concern.

For just a £2 text, supporters can enter the competition which has the artwork as a prize, with the winner (chosen at random) having the piece delivered and installed in their home for free. Fatboy Slim has also donated backstage passes to his Elrow Town show in the Olympic Park August 19.

The DJ, aka Norman Cook, said: “I have witnessed The Loop in action at my last Manchester gig and I’m fully supportive of what they are trying to do. I’m happy to do what I can to help and would encourage anyone to donate and support this important initiative.”

Chemical X, the secretive artist who designed the Ministry of Sound logo, said: “I support the promotion of 'informed choice’ rather than the fantasy of enforced abstinence – 95% of regular users of illegal substances don’t have a problem apart from ignorance of what they are actually taking. That’s why I support The Loop and what they are doing to make the night time economy a safer environment for young people to enjoy.”

Check out the full crowdfunder here, and the details for how to enter the competition below.

What is the name of the active ingredient in an ecstasy pill?
