Pantone honors Prince with a new shade of deep purple
‘Love Symbol #2’
The Pantone company has developed a new shade of purple in honor of the late musician Prince, who frequently used variations of the color in his artistry.
The deep shade of purple, which is called ‘Love Symbol #2’, is inspired by Prince’s purple Yamaha piano that was scheduled to go on tour with the artist before his passing. The custom hue will now serve as the color for everything associated with Prince and his brand moving forward.
In a statement, Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, touched on why they chose to develop the new shade and what it now stands for.
“We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one.’ A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
