Go behind the scenes of Jamie xx's compelling 'Gosh' video
See how the dystopian world came to be
This past summer Jamie XX shared a captivating video for ‘Gosh’, a track off his chart topping album ‘In Colour’.
Directed by Romain Gavras, the video offers what looks to be a dystopian representation of Paris, France, but after going behind the scenes in a new video, a different interpretation is offered.
Although it possesses somewhat of a haunting visual display, the original video was in fact filmed in Tianducheng, China, a gated community built with architectural similarities to Paris as it even includes a replica of The Eiffel Tower. In the new behind-the-scenes video, we are shown a cheerful production of Chinese youth dying their hair and laughing with each other, rather than the dismal world that Gavras presents.
The main highlights of both the original and making-of videos are the 400 or more students of The Xiaolong Martial Arts School who storm the city streets in anarchy and the car doing donuts underneath the giant monument.
