Last week, Alice Glass, former member of the Canadian electronic duo Crystal Castles, released a grueling account of the alleged physical, sexual and mental abuse that was inflicted upon her for over a decade by her ex-bandmate Ethan Kath.

Kath has responded by filing a lawsuit against Glass for defamation following the rape and abuse allegations and five other claims. At the moment, the compensation for supposed damages that is being pursued by Kath is unspecified. The lawsuit being filed also aims to seek compensation for the numerous Crystal Castle gigs that were canceled following Glass’ claims.

In a complaint that was obtained by Pitchfork, Kath claims that Glass’ abuse allegations were published “with the intent to disrupt [Crystal Castles’] relationship” and claims he has suffered “emotional distress” following her statement. He goes on to call her accusations a “dastardly plan” which is intended to “ruin his good name and reputation in the industry, destroy Crystal Castles... and in turn boost her own career.”

In a new statement, Kath claims he fully supported Alice when she left left Crystal Castles to “handle her mental heath issues and substance abuse issues.” He follows up by saying: “I will continue to support her quest to wellness but I can't support extortion, false claims, and accusations put forth after the band attained new success without her.”
