Woolfy vs Projections
'Stations' (Permanent Vacation)
8/10
Woolfy vs Projections are that rare thing: a band inspired by Steely Dan and classic Balearic but whose percussive, guitar-flecked sound and songs are never less than muscular.
With Junior Boys-style vocal melodrama and a subtle dash of dubbed-out disco (their previous album featured a collaboration with Tensnake), this is the work of LA producers Simon James and Dan Hastie and the third LP in a concept series.
Best of all, over 11 tracks, this lush record rarely puts a foot wrong. Hitting its stride with the majestic 'My Room' (think Jon Hopkins remixing Kings Of Convenience), the carefree 'Set It Up', which oozes Salinas beach vibes and 'Combination' which adds lashings of bleeps and would rock the socks off Space at the right moment.
