Woman hospitalised after chandelier arm falls from ceiling at Berlin nightclub

A woman was hospitalised and another person injured over the weekend when the arm of a chandelier fell into a crowd at Berlin's Metropol nightclub.

The incident occurred at around 10:30PM on the evening of Friday, November 28, during an event from German DJ and producer David Puentez, according to BILD.

Witnesses told the publication that a lightbulb and its socket from an overhead chandelier fell into the audience during the DJ set, hitting a 30-year-old woman. She was hospitalised with head injuries.

Another man was injured with a cut to his upper arm, BILD reports. The crowd quickly alerted the venue, who stopped the ongoing performance to clear the area underneath the chandelier. The event was then cancelled, a spokesperson says.

“We are sorry that there was an incident in the framework of the event [with] David Puentez on Friday, in which people were also injured,” the club said in an Instagram story (translated from German).

“We would like to express our apologies to all visitors affected by the incident and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement continued, adding that there was “no damage” to the venue itself.

“In this context, we would like to point out that on the day in question we are not the organiser, but we're merely landlords of the playground Metropol,” they claimed.

David Puentez also shared a statement via Instagram story, saying that the show had to end early “for the protection of all guests and staff”, but wished those who were injured a “speedy recovery”
