Berlin-based DJ Pooja B has created a fundraiser compilation, ‘We The People’, with all proceeds going toward COVID relief in India.
As India’s infection rates skyrocket, Pooja B has put together a compilation with help from artists of Indian heritage living outside of the country to fund the medical equipment and oxygen currently in dire need.
“It's not been easy for many of us from India to sit in our privileged position, while friends and family are in the midst of this horrible second wave of the pandemic,” says Pooja B, who curated the project. “I put together this compilation as music is the best way we as artists can urgently amplify and support India's desperate need for help, whilst being far away."
All proceeds will go toward medication, equipment, hospital beds, oxygen and also those most affected by the virus. The funds will be split between a mixture of organisations and charities all funding the relief of COVID in India.
Charities include Citizens Covid War Room for those underprivileged to receive treatment, as well as Hemkunt Foundation, Mukul Madhav Foundation and Protsahan India Foundation.
India’s death toll currently stands at 311,000, with daily infection rates currently hitting the highest numbers since the pandemic began. Hospitals are reporting shortages of equipment as thousands are hospitalised every day.
Earlier this month, global fundraisers popped up across the world as DJs and labels showed their support for the country. London producer anu teamed up with DJs in March to produce a 24-hour livestream.
