Watch the first trailer for HBO's Burning Man documentary series

HBO has shared the first trailer for its upcoming four-part documentary series focused on Burning Man.

The Man Will Burn promises to offer an "intimate and behind-the-scenes look" at the Black Rock Desert-based event, and features interviews and testimonies from attendees who help to bring Burning Man to life year-on-year.

The series, which will premiere on July 9 via HBO Max, is directed by filmmaker Jehane Noujaim, who received an Academy Award nomination in 2014 for The Square, and Vikram Gandhi who is best known for his film Kūmāré.

While viewers will have to wait until The Man Will Burn's release for more details, a description submitted to this year's Tribeca Film Festival says that the film "traces the evolution" of the Nevada festival following "several consecutive years of unprecedented crises" that have pushed it "to its limits".

Since the pandemic, Burning Man has faced significant financial issues, only worsened by its 2023 edition that saw thousands of attendees stranded in the Black Rock Desert following torrential weather.

Last year, the festival hit headlines after a man, later identified as 37-year-old Vadim Kruglov, was found dead on site in a suspected homicide. Investigators have yet to identify a suspect in relation to his murder.
