Ahead of the release of a new documentary focused on Detroit producers, rare footage has surfaced of pioneering hip hop producer J Dilla along with an unreleased track, ‘Ghetto Wish’.

The documentary, dubbed The Unseen — A Detroit Beat Tape, is directed by Gus Sutherland who highlights the Motor City’s hip hop scene via never-before-seen VHS video footage captured by Justin Kovar, an audiovisual archivist who was active in the 90s.

Other influential artists featured in the documentary include Quelle Chris, Dakim, Nick Speed and House Shoes. Producer Ta’Raach has put together the documentary’s soundtrack which consists of music by many of the film’s featured artists.
