US airforce troops threw a rave in a Norfolk Airbnb barn conversion

The Airbnb rave strikes again. This time, US airforce troops from RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk were responsible for duping someone into believing their property would be rented for a "quiet weekend".

Instead, Sara Bear's Kenninghall, Norfolk converted farm building became a party sport for 50 servicemen and women who even kitted it out with their own soundsystem, smoke machine and disco lights.

According to the Eastern Daily Press, neighbours warned Mrs Bear, who'd gone out for the evening with her husband, of the party and when they returned at 1.15am on Saturday, her husband was punched by one of the revellers.

Ms Bear said: "When I walked around the holiday let it was just rammed. They had brought smoke machines, their own sound machine, disco lights and tables. I called the police and we started asking people to leave.

She added: “Most of them just left fine. They were quite respectful. They were surprised when we turned up. A couple of them were annoyed we had ruined their party and they had a lot to say about it. One of the servicemen punched my partner.”

The husband was left with cuts on his cheek and mouth and Norfolk police are investigating the incident as assault.

Lieutenant Elias Small, a public affairs officer at RAF Lakenheath, said: “We are aware of the alleged incident involving an airman from RAF Lakenheath and are cooperating fully with the investigation being conducted by police authorities.

“While I can’t discuss ongoing investigations, I can tell you that we hold our airmen to high standards and expect them to treat their fellow wingmen and community neighbours with dignity and respect.”

An Airbnb spokesperson said: "We have zero tolerance for this kind of behavior, have removed the guest while we investigate, and are providing our support to the host. There have been over 160 million guest arrivals in Airbnb listings and bad experiences are extremely rare."

It's not the first time party-hungry people have used AirBnb to find a spot for a rave. In March, tourists turned a North London property into a "fully functioning nightclub", even charging for tickets on the door.
