Ultra founder Alex Omes pronounced dead

The 43-year-old Miami promoter died earlier today

News broke today that Alex Omes, founder of Ultra and longtime Miami nightlife don, has sadly passed away. He was 43 years old.

"The organizers of Ultra Music Festival extend their deepest condolences to the family of Alex Omes and are saddened by the news of his passing," said Ultra in a recent statement to Miami New Times. "We will continue to remember and celebrate Alex for his love, passion, and contributions to the Electronic Dance Music community."

As of yet, there has been no stated cause of death.

Alex Omes founded the Ultra music festival in 1999 and oversaw the company's swell in stature and influence to become one of the biggest dance music festivals in North America. He separated from the company in 2010, though continued to promote and run massive shows in and around Miami. He is credited as being one of the most influential figures in the resurgence of American dance music.
