The UK government has ordered pubs and nightclubs to shut

The UK government has ordered pubs and nightclubs to shut

Public venues such as nightclubs, pub, bars, cafes, cinemas and gyms have been told to close today and not reopen for the foreseeable by the UK government, in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19.

In today’s public briefing, the Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "We want you to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives," adding that "we will get through this - we will get through it together and beat this virus".

Takeaways will remain open.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak also announced a number of economic measures to protect workers’ jobs, stating that the government will pay 80 per cent of wages for employees who are not working, or up to £2,500 a month.
