Tupac's family launches wrongful death lawsuit against alleged murderers
The suit is seeking to identify the "individuals who may have participated in planning, financing, directing, or carrying out the conspiracy" to murder Tupac in 1996
The family of Tupac Shakur have launched a wrongful death lawsuit, alleging that his murder was the result of a "complex conspiracy".
The suit was submitted in Los Angeles on Tuesday (April 28) by Tupac's stepbrother who is acting administrator of his estate, Maurice Shakur, and names former gang leader Duane "Keefe D" Davis - who is currently standing trial for his purported role in the shooting that led to Tupac's death in Las Vegas in September 1996 - alongside other anonymous alleged accomplices.

Alongside "unspecified damages", the documents state that Shakur's family are looking to "identify the individuals who may have participated in planning, financing, directing, or carrying out the conspiracy" to carry out Tupac's murder.
"Nearly 30 years after Tupac's death, in 2023, the first - and only - arrest was made," documents seen by the Los Angeles Times read. "Related grand jury transcripts and a subsequent Netflix documentary have since revealed the existence of a broader, more complex conspiracy to murder Tupac that involved much more than mere retaliation for a prior altercation."

According to BBC News, the Netflix documentary referenced in the filing is said to be 2025's Sean Combs: The Reckoning, which included footage of a police interview in which Davis claims he was offered $1 million to murder Tupac by Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
The suit similarly references grand jury transcripts from Davis' trail as he currently stands as the sole suspect in Tupac's murder. Davis was arrested in September 2023 after authorities used admissions in his book, Compton Street Legend, against him, claiming he had planned to take revenge on Tupac for a previous gang-related incident.
The filing from Shakur's family is seperate to criminal proceedings against Davis.
