Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was admitted to hospital yesterday (May 12) after being stabbed by another prison inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

Lanez was reportedly stabbed at around 7:20:AM on Monday morning, prison officials told the BBC, suffering wounds to his back, torso, back of the head, and side of the face.

In a statement released via the rapper’s official Instagram after the attack, Lanez allegedly suffered 14 stab wounds. Both of his lungs collapsed, it added, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus as a result.

“He is now breathing on his own,” the statement reads. “Despite being in pain, he is talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through. He also wants to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support.”

No motive was given for the incident, though prison officials have said that an investigation is now underway into the stabbing (via BBC).

Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2023 for shooting Megan Thee Stallion following an argument at a Hollywood party.

During testimony at the trial, Megan Thee Stallion claimed that they argued about their past sexual relationship. She then asked to be let out of the vehicle they were leaving the event in, before Lanez began shooting at the ground, ultimately wounding her foot.

Lanez was given three felony gun-related charges, and was handed a 10-year prison sentence. Megan Thee Stallion secured a five-year restraining order against Lanez following the incident.
