Tim Westwood interviewed twice under police caution for alleged sex offences

Tim Westwood, the former BBC Radio 1 DJ, has been questioned twice under police caution, reports the BBC.

The 65-year-old is under investigation for five alleged sex offences, which took place in London between 1982 and 2016.

No arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told The Sun: “Police are investigating five reports relating to allegations of non-recent sexual offences allegedly committed by a man.

“The offences are alleged to have occurred in London between 1982 and 2016.

“A 65-year-old man was interviewed under caution on March 15, 2023, and April 4, 2023.”

Last year, seven women accused Westwood – who had been a broadcaster on the BBC for nearly 20 years – of alleged sexual abuse including “flashing and groping them”, in a joint investigation by the BBC and The Guardian.

Some of the women said that they were under 18-years-old when the incidents occurred, while one woman, who came forwards two months after the initial investigation, alleged in a BBC News documentary that she was 14 when Westwood had sex with her on multiple occasions.

10 more women reported allegations after.

At the time, the DJ – who presented the UK’s first nationally broadcast rap show – was the host of a regular slot on Capital Xtra, which he stepped down from following the publication of the investigation.

It is not known whether the women who came forward to speak in the investigations have reported their allegations to the police.

Last August, the BBC launched an external inquiry into its knowledge of Tim Westwood’s conduct during his 20 years of working at the corporation. The inquiry is still ongoing.

Westwood has denied the claims, with a statement published by The Sun from his representative saying: “Tim Westwood strongly rejects all allegations of wrongdoing.”
