Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter announces new ballet album 'Mirage'

Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter has shared details of his latest album, 'Mirage'.

Set for release on June 5, the record serves as a soundtrack for an eponymous 16-dancer ballet, and utilises "electronic minimalism" inspired by Greek-French avant-garde composter Iannis Xenakis.

The 16-track piece charts the “changing states” of the ballet's dancers, in line with a vision from its creators —choreographer Damien Jalet and contemporary artist Kōhei Nawa.

The first extract from the new album, 'Mirage: part II', was shared today (April 24) and lists Bangalter as responsible for the "production, composition, and all instruments" on the track.

'Mirage' is the latest addition to the former robot's classical repertoire, following scores for ballet 'Mythologies' and absurdist film Daaaaaalí! in 2023, and installations alongside French photographer and street artist JR and Damien Jalet,  with the latest - Dans La Lumière - also debuting this week at the Perrotin gallery in Paris.

Earlier this year, Thomas Bangalter played his first DJ set on UK soil in nearly 19 years alongside Fred again.. during the latter's final USB002 headline show at London's Ally Pally. You can watch the set and get the full tracklist here.
