Thailand’s homegrown female talents are taking their techno global

The latest episode of Smirnoff and Mixmag’s ongoing Global Dancefloor documentary series whisks viewers to Bangkok, Thailand to explore women who are championing techno within the country while also putting Thailand on the map as an international underground hotspot.

Local talent Nakadia kicks us off, a fitting character who defied the odds of the early Thai electronic music scene, dove head first into her love and curiosity with techno and has broken out as a rising star with residencies in Ibiza and Berlin. Fellow Thai native Mendy Indigo follows by telling the inspirational story of her humble roots and following her passion to DJ and produce. Finally, we hear from experimental talent XO809, who sheds light on the important aspect of community within Thailand’s blossoming nightlife scene. She speaks about the benefit of promoters and local artists working with one another to achieve success together, calling the Thai music world “one happy family”.

“There are so many talented female DJs in Thailand,” Mendy proudly states. “We’re trying really hard to support each other to get success.” The electronic scene in Thailand has a promising future in the good hands of a strong, loving community.
