Teesside-based NE Volume celebrates 100th edition of magazine with three-day event

To celebrate its 100th edition of its magazine, Teesside-based publication and venue NE Volume has announced a weekender taking place between July 26 and 28 at its Stockton NE Volume Music Bar.

With its magazine in production for over eight years, the occasion is to be marked by showcasing North East-based artists, in alignment with the project's purpose upon its setup in 2015: to celebrate the region's music and arts scene.

Half a decade into the project, founders Lee and Adam Allcock (pictured) opened the Music Bar in 2020, shortly before the pandemic. Amidst a turbulent four years, the brothers are now able to fully support local and national grassroots musicians, often hosting four gigs per week.

Looking to July, on the Friday of the weekender, local Paul Smith - frontman of band Maximo Park - is set to play a DJ set spanning alt-pop, hip-hop, northern soul and more. Meanwhile, Saturday and Sunday see names including End Credits, Redshift, Mascara's Lies, Beatnik, The Wednesday Flowers and Dog Counters involved. You can check out the full line-up here.

"It feels incredible to reach this milestone," co-founder Lee tells Mixmag. "When I initially started things off as as a blog, I didn't think we'd print more than 10 editions of the magazine, let alone 100! We've had cover stars ranging from local acts such as Paul Smith from Maximo Park to Stereophonics and have worked with artists from right across the UK. We've also interviewed local stars such as Sam Fender who have obviously gone on to do pretty well for themselves.

"The magazine was set up to support local bands and to showcase the talent we have right here on our doorstep. With that in mind, our 100th Edition Weekender event at our own NE Volume Music Bar will showcase that talent on one stage across three days."
