Swedish House Mafia crowd boo Yves Tumor offstage: “You don’t gotta like it”

Experimental artist Yves Tumor was booed offstage at a show in New York last week, they claimed in a statement on Instagram.

After opening for EDM group Swedish House Mafia on Thursday, September 11, at the 23,000-capacity Arthur Ashe Stadium, Yves Tumor said they experienced a negative reaction from crowds.

In a video statement shared via Instagram stories and seen by Stereogum, Tumor explained: “I just got booed offstage for playing the best set of the night by a bunch of the corniest people I’ve ever seen in my fucking life.”

“This city is truly hell on earth,” they continued, speaking about New York, where the show took place. “I thought LA was bad. I thought Berlin was bad. I thought Paris was bad.”

According to a Reddit post, Tumor hit back at the crowd during their opening performance, saying on stage: “If you turn up, I’ll suck your dick – and balls. You don’t gotta like it, I’m still getting paid.”

Swedish House Mafia became the first ever electronic act to headline the Queens-based stadium last week. Despite negative reactions to Yves Tumor’s performance, some praised the show, including the band’s long-term collaborator, Alexander Wessely.

“I’m so sorry, that was fucked up,” Wessely wrote. “You killed it, me and the guys loved it”. Tumor also shared some screenshots of negative messages they allegedly received after the show, reacting to one with the caption: “Blatant racism” (via Billboard).

“These sub-humans are already spamming my comments. That’s how much they loved it, they had that much energy to search me. I truly love my stalkers,” they said.

Swedish House Mafia have yet to comment.
