Stranger Things teases second season with new trailer

It’s coming in 2017

Netflix has revealed a new season of Stranger Things will be released next year.

It’s unsurprising news considering the phenomenal popularity of the show and its 80s-inspired synth-heavy soundtrack, which has seen composers S U R V I V E booked to play Unsound and Deadmau5 broadcast a recreation of the main theme on Twitch.

The new trailer doesn’t reveal much, presenting a list of episode titles from the forthcoming season among the title sequence, posted with the message “The adventure continues. Stranger Things 2 is coming 2017.”

A list of nine phrases feature, indicating the new season contains that number of episodes. They are: ‘Madmax’, ‘The Boy Who Came Back To Life’, ‘The Pumpkin Patch’, ‘The Palace’, ‘The Storm’, ‘The Pollywog’, ‘The Secret Cabin’, ‘The Brain’ and ‘The Lost Brother’.

Entertainment Weekly has spoken to creators the Duffer Brothers and wrangled some plot details. Hawkins, Indiana will remain as a location for the second season, taking place one year on from its predecessor's 1983 setting, but new areas "a little bit outside of Hawkins" will be explored.

“I don’t think we ever thought anthology. I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade. That’s something we batted around from the very beginning. But for us, there’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved," says Ross Duffer.

Matt Duffer revealed there will be four new characters added, saying: "“There’s going to be a lot of new and interesting dynamics that we didn’t see in season 1."

The Upside Down dimension will also be returned to, with Ross stating: “We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.”
