Stormzy wins Best British Male Solo Artist award at the 2018 Brit awards

The 2018 Brit award for the coveted title category of Best British Male Solo Artist award has been won by grime star Stormzy.

Stormzy's win came as a bit of a surprise, as he was nominated against vocal dance music hater Liam Gallagher and Ed Sheeran, a pop favorite. The win marks Stormzy's very first Brit award. "“Thank God, that’s the reason why I’m here to do what I do," he said on stage for his acceptance speech.

Last year, the award was posthumously given to David Bowie, a win that edged out Craig David, and fellow grime act Skepta, among others.
